How to Measure Accordion Pleated Fly Screen?

You've chosen the perfect fly screen for your home or workplace, now it's time for the most crucial step: getting the right measurements to ensure your order fits your space perfectly! Don't worry, this process is much easier than you think. At Modern Fly Screens, we've prepared this detailed guide to turn the ordering process into a DIY project. Simply follow the steps below carefully for a perfect result.

Golden Rules Recommended to Apply Before Taking Fly Screen Measurements

For an accurate measurement, be sure to follow these simple but critical rules:

  • Use a Metal Tape Measure: Flexible tape measures or measuring tapes can give inaccurate results. Always choose a sturdy metal tape measure.
  • Three-Point Rule: Always measure from at least 3 different points (bottom, middle, top) for width and height.
  • Note the Minimum Measurement: If there are millimeter differences between the measurements, always enter the smallest measurement on the order form. This will ensure your screen fits seamlessly into the frame.
  • Do not add allowances: Simply enter the exact measurements you obtained using the methods we specify. Our production team will calculate the necessary allowances for the product to function smoothly.

Measurement of Fly Screen Type Step by Step

  1. Taking Measurements for Hinged Fly Screens (Windows and Doors)

Hinged fly screens are mounted on the outer surface (sill) of the window or door frame.

  • Width: Open the window or door sash. Measure the distance from the outer edge of the rubber seal (wick) pressed against the sash on the inside of the frame to the outer edge of the opposite seal.
  • Height: Similarly, measure the distance from the outer edge of the seal of the upper case to the outer edge of the seal of the lower case (or marble).
  1. Taking Measurements for Pleated (Accordion) and Railed (Sliding) Fly Screens

These models are usually installed inside the door or window opening, on the frame.

  • Width (Width): Measure the clear space distance from the left inner wall to the right inner wall of the case to be installed.
  • Height: Measure the clear clearance height from the top interior ceiling of the safe to the floor (or marble).

Common Mistakes and Things to Pay Attention to

  • Mistake: Using a flexible tape measure.
    • Correct: Use only metal tape measures.
  • Mistake: Adding extra margin to the measurement "just to be safe."
    • The truth is: Just enter the net amount and we will calculate the share.
  • Caution: Be sure to check for any obstructions in the area where you'll be measuring that could prevent the screen from operating (e.g., a protruding door handle, an alarm sensor, a blind cord, etc.). If so, you can consider our additional solutions, such as the "Offset Frame."
