How to Install a Fly Screen?

The custom-made fly screen you ordered has arrived! Now it's time to add this modern and practical solution to your space. At Modern Fly Screen, we've designed all our products with a "Do-It-Yourself" (DIY) philosophy. With this guide and installation videos, you can quickly complete your own installation without needing a professional.

Before You Begin Assembly

  • Required Tools: Cordless drill (for screw mountings), metal tape measure, pencil, spirit level (if applicable).
  • Watch the Video: Finding and watching the assembly video specific to the product you purchased on our website will make the process much more understandable.
  • Prepare the Area: Wipe the surface of the window or door frame where you will be installing the product with a clean, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt.

Hinged Fly Screen Installation

The installation of this classic and robust system consists of a few simple steps:

  1. Attach the Hinges to the Frame: Screw the hinges you received into the prepared holes on the corresponding side of the fly screen frame.
  2. Position and Mark the Frame: Align the screen precisely with the window or door frame where you will be installing it. Mark the hinge screw holes on the frame with a pencil. You can use a spirit level to ensure it's level.
  3. Screwing to the Case: Secure the hinges to the case with a cordless drill at the locations you marked.
  4. Assemble the Lock and Handle: Screw the pin lock mechanism's countersunk pin and handle into the points where they will meet when the screen is closed. Your screen is now ready for safe use!

Pleated and Railed (Sliding) Fly Screen Installation

These models are generally installed using two different methods: screwing or gluing.

A) Screw Mounting:

  1. Align the Rails: Place the upper and lower rail profiles of the product in their places.
  2. Mark and Screw: Mark the pre-drilled holes on the rails to secure the frame. Drill holes where you marked and screw the rails in place.
  3. Place the Fly Screen Box: Assemble the system by attaching the vertical profile (box) containing the moving mechanism to the side rail.
  4. Test: Open and close your fly screen a few times to make sure it works smoothly.

B) Adhesive Mounting:

  1. Remove the Tape on the Back of the Rails: Remove the protective tape on the back of the profiles.
  2. Adhesive: Carefully align the profiles to the frame and press firmly. It is recommended to wait a few hours for the adhesive to fully set.
  3. Assemble and Test the System: Just like with the screw assembly, reinstall the fly box and check its operation.

Takmatic Fly Screen Installation (The Easiest Method!)

As the name suggests, the Takmatic fly screen requires no tools and is completed in seconds.

  1. Place the Frame: Carefully place the custom-made frame on the outer frame of your window.
  2. Press and Lock: Press lightly and evenly on the edges of the frame with your palm. You will hear a "click" indicating that the special locking mechanism has engaged and your screen is securely fastened.
